Mix and Export

An audio podcast is essentially an audio file like an mp3 that has been place online for download or subscription. The key features are:

  1. Audio should be in a quality but compressed format; mp3 is ideal.
  2. Audio must be placed on a web server where it can be downloaded.

Audacity Export

Using Audacity to edit yoru work, you complete the process by selecting File / Export. This will allow you to save an mp3 file. You should also complete the ID3 information such as Artist, Track, Year etc.

Publishing

You have several options:

  1. Upload the file directly to your server space. Consider creating an /audio folder. Then share the link. This allows for direct downloads but is probably the least sophisticated way to present your work.
  2. Upload as above, but include a player link on your web page.
  3. <audio controls> <source src="filename.mp3" type="audio/mpeg"> </audio>
  4. Add the file through a Wordpress blog on your site. Create a post and use the media upload tool.

RSS Feeds and I-tunes

What makes a Podcasts different from simple audio files is that visitors can subscribe the the "series" using Itunes, GooglePlay Music, Beyond Pod, etc. The home of your Podcast designed by a file called an< "RSS Feed." When this file is added to the visitors podcasting app, it automatically checks for and downloads new episodes.

Publish via your Wordpress

If you want people to be able to subscribe to your Podcast, you should upload and publish it through a blog. This is the simplest way to generate an RSS feed. (There are other ways, but you don't really want to learn XML markup too, do you? ) Then savvy visitors can simply use that xml address.
